KATHMANDU: Prof Dr Bhola Thapa is the Registrar of Kathmandu University. The Dean at School of Engineering, KU since 2008, he has worked in various other projects as a Mechanical Engineer. He was awarded with a certificate and gold medal by the Ministry of Education on the occasion of Education Day 2054 BS for his contribution in educational field. Prof Dr Thapa also has a vision to spread awareness about why engineers are necessary for our country. Here he recalls his college days
MY ALMA MATER(S)
I completed BE in 1991 from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, India; ME in 1999 from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Rajasthan, India, and PhD in 2004 from Institute of Energy and Process Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway. I was awarded with Colombo Plan Scholarship for BE and completed ME and PhD as I was awarded with fellowship programmes.
COURSE STUDIED
I studied Mechanical Engineering and Sand Erosion in Hydraulic Machinery.
COLLEGE LIFE
My college life was the golden period of my life that was full of opportunities.
The best of my college life was attachment with friends who supported me in every possible way.
LASTING MEMORIES
I was studying ISc at Amrit Science Campus and during those days it was the Panchayat regime. I don’t remember the exact date but there was a bomb blast in Kathmandu and I was at Kulekhani with my friends. That day we had to return to Kathmandu and so we walked back. That day reminds me of my college days when I used to trek on the outskirts of Kathmandu with my friends.
LESSON LEARNT
We should be hard working, dedicated and disciplined to achieve success in life. It’s not that you must be excellent to get success but you have to have persistence and passion to achieve success in life.
WORDS TO HEED
Today’s society is very challenging and competitive. So it’s not enough for a student just to be a bookworm. The student must be responsible for herself/himself and should not be desperate thinking about his/her problems. Instead they should try to get solutions to their problems to move ahead in life.
HOW TO ACE IN COLLEGE
You should have your own plan and your calendar about what you want to do in life and how to do it. Don’t be dependent on your teachers or elders, make your own plan to success.
