LOS ANGELES: ‘Van Helsing’, a horror film depicting one man’s battle with Count Dracula and his evil empire starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale screamed to the top spot at the US box office this weekend, early figures showed. Van Helsing raked in $54.2 million dollars on its debut weekend, according to box office-trackers Exhibitor Relations. The horror movie knocked ‘Mean Girls’ — a film about US high school cliques — down to second place, as it earned about $14 million dollars in ticket sales. ‘Man on Fire’ was placed third earning $7.9 million, followed by the debut of ‘New York Minute’ with 6.2 million and ‘13 Going on 30’ with 5.5 million. — AFP
