Animal stories
Japanese Bobtails are tail less cats, but some do have a short tail or a ‘rise’ tail. The trademark of these breeds is their tail that resembles a bunny-tail. They may be flexible or rigid and can be of different shapes and sizes. No two Japanese Bobtails’ tails are ever alike. These cats are traditional Japanese symbol of good luck. These cats are sturdy and well muscled standing high on slim and long legs. Their head structure is very different from any other cat breeds. The typical Bobtail face is triangular in shape, has high cheekbones and a long, straight nose. Their oval eyes are set with an oriental slant giving the breed a distinctive Japanese look. Ears are large, broad, upright and set well apart.
Japanese Bobtails are curious, intelligent, talkative cats with high energy. Many describe these breeds as ‘singing’ cats because they tend to chirrup melodiously. Although they like to talk, they are never noisy and do not have loud voices. They adore human companionship and get on well with other animals and are particularly good with children.
Coat colour
Japanese Bobtails come in most colours. The most commonly seen Japanese Bobtail pattern is the tri-colour, or mi-ke (white with red and black), but other colours and patterns are also accepted.
Temperament
These breeds are very confident and clever. They are very athletic and entertaining. They like to carry things in their mouth and enjoy a good game of fetch. Some even like to swim and they just love to ride on shoulders.
Lifespan
The average life span of these cats is between 15 -18 years.
Pet grooming
These breeds are recognised in both short-haired and semi-longhaired varieties. Both coat types are silky and need minimal grooming.
