Anoushka ready with new album

NEW YORK:

Sitarist Anoushka Shankar is all set to release her new album Breathing Under Water with a premiere concert in New York next week.

Anoushka’s album made in collaboration with musician Karsh Kale, blends Indian classical, electronics and folk.

Renowned musicians like Sting, Norah Jones, Pandit Ravi Shankar and Medieval Punditz are featured on the album being released by Manhattan Records. Her first album Rise (Angel Records) got her a Grammy nomination in the Best Contemporary World Music category.

After Rise, which was released two years ago, she has been experimenting with forms far beyond those of Indian classical music to reach a wider audience. “I’m pushing the envelope on a personal level and trying to see how far I can go,” Anoushka said. “It means so much to me to

explore the Indian classical music my father taught me, yet I am so deeply excited to be discovering my own creative voice.” Anoushka will also accompany her father for a concert at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York October 20.
