KATHMANDU: Paa is a wonderful movie that brings to light the story of a differently-abled child Auro (Amitabh Bachchan) and his relationship with his father Amol Atre (Abishek Bachchan).

Auro is an intelligent, witty 13-year-old boy suffering from a rare genetic defect called progeria that causes accelerated ageing. He lives with his mother Vidya (Vidya Balan), a gynaecologist and grandmother (Arundhati Naag). Though Auro, who doesn’t have long to live, meets his father Amol, a politician with high ideals, he is still clueless about his father’s identity. The movie basically revolves around Auro’s life in school and home. With this storyline, director Balakrishnan has given the whole movie an outstanding touch, which is really commendable and remarkable.

The movie in itself is the story of varied relationships that a young child has with his father, mother, grandparents and friends. And

these relationships have been projected in as real a manner as they could be. The plots are wonderfully interwoven with some very interesting sequences.

The director has handled both the emotional and comic moments with aplomb. Even the actors have given brilliant performances leaving the audience in awe.

Amitabh Bachchan has yet again proven his genius by portraying every minute details of a child’s psychology wonderfully in his role as Auro. This does not mean other actors have been sidetracked. Abishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan have given an applause-worth performance as Auro’s parents. Junior Bachchan mesmerises the audience with his portrayal of a young politician, whose dream is a better India. Paresh Rawal as Amol’s father stands out despite having a very small screen space. Arundhati Naag has carried her role with amazing panache.

The dialogues, cinematography and music department are worth praising. Make-up artistes Christien Tinsley and Domini Till deserve special mention for their incredible task of transforming the veteran actor into a young child.

A positive film with funny and light moments in abundance, Paa will surely capture the interest of the audience. Post interval, one is bound to hear a lot of sniffles and spy a lot of eyes for the climax takes the film to a different level. It’s a movie worth a watch.
