Birthday bull’s eye

It was a day of religious significance, cultural harmony and entertainment
all together for the people who had gathered at the Mustang Gompa, Swayambhu on September 12. A huge smiling poster of Sakya Thichin Rimpoche greeted everyone who had arrived for a special programme — celebrating the 64th birthday of Sakya Thichin Rimpoche. An elaborate puja was held, followed by singing ‘Happy BirtHday’ and cutting of the cake.
The most anticipated part of the programme that had everyone cheering and boosting the moral of their favourite team was an archery competition. People from five VDCs namely, Mustang, Chusang, Jong, Muktinath and Kagbeni had taken part.
Five players from each team showcased their skills as they tried to hit the bull’s eye. With some misses and some hits, the event held the audience in rapt attention. With each player getting 14 chances, and earning two points for hitting the centre and one for the board, they tried their level best.
The winners were Chusang VDC with 48 points. Kagbeni stood second with 39 points whereas Muktinath came in third with 38 points. Captain of Chusang, Rishi Nirvan Gurung was also the highest scorer with 12 points along with Bel Bahadur Gurung.
The first prize winners received Rs 5,000, a trophy and certificate. The second and third prize winners got Rs 4,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively, along with a trophy and certificate each.
Many performances which included dances and melodious songs were also held.
