Book fair for students

KATHMANDU: Shuvatara School is organising a book fair — ‘Book Week’ — on November 24 and 25 at Sanepa from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The fair aims to give children exposure to good literature and writers in English and Nepali, and imbibe a love of reading.

At the fair, there will be exhibitions, displays of children’s books, magazines as well as selected reading materials from publishers.

Shuvatara students will be putting up their own stalls on environment, arts and crafts stalls, science exhibitions, says Abdul Naim Chaudhari, Vice-principal and administrator of Shuavtara School, adding many workshops and competitions have been also planned.

Workshops (in English and Nepali) on public speaking, story writing, poetry writing, creative will be held. There will be two groups — workshops for grades VI and VII will be held on Friday, while those for grades VIII to X will be held on Saturday.

Prominent writers and artists like Ashesh Malla, Bhagirathi Shrestha, Greta Rana, Manjul, Chiraj Bangdel, Dr Rajendra Rongong among others will be conducting the workshops.

Students can also take part in a number of competitions like magazine and newspaper making, ad making, scrabble, word games, poetry writing.

“Admission to the fair from this year will be Rs 1,000 per school,” says Chaudhari. However, those individuals interested in visiting the fair can just walk in.
