Camping out
On April 12, scouts from different sch-ools had gathered at Kakani for the International Jamboree with the objective to celebrate the New Year centenary camporee 2064.
St Mary’s scout troop of 20 members under the guidance of DK Rai and Bharati Dewan had also gone to attende this camporee.
This three-day camporee was held to mark 100 years of scouting and the Nepali New Year, and the theme was ‘Creating a better community through scouting’.
The camporee was full of new experiences. I had been to many camps, but I felt that this one was a bit different. It offered us new activities such as monkey crawling, monkey bridge, clay moulding, among others. It even provided us with numerous opportunities to explore and learn more.
Scouts from different schools could interact, which helped in developing friendships amongst us.
Scouting provides an excellent platform for character and personality development. It renders service for all those in need and motivates the youth to be involved in social service. This definitely helps to create and make a better and prosperous community. This is one of the objectives of scouting.
The camp was supervised by the Rover and Rangers, with Bishow Shrestha as the camp chief.
I believe this camp provided us with an opportunity to learn more about life. More of such camps should be held and parents should encourage their children to participate in such events.
