Carey’s birthday and new album

LONDON: Pop diva Mariah Carey celebrated her 35th birthday in style on March 26, but insisted: “I don’t have anniversaries.” The US singer — one of the best-selling female vocalists of the 1990s — arrived fashionably late for her party, which was also the official launch of her latest album, ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’. Wearing a flowing white dress and diamonds she said: “I don’t have anniversaries and this is the launch of ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’. It’s a very happy day for me, I’m very excited.” She went on to joke: “It’s the anniversary of my 12th birthday.” Of her new album, she said: “It’s a good-time album, a good feeling record. It’s the first time I’ve had a great experience making a record from top to bottom.” Guests packed the Tantra club in London’s West End for a VIP reception as Carey arrived with her entourage. The club had laid out a gold sparkly carpet for her to walk. — AFP
