Castles in the sand

Artists in Germany have been busy with their buckets and spades building giant sandcastles for the annual sand sculpture festival in Berlin. About 27 artists from 11 countries have each spent a week creating their four-metre-high sandy masterpieces to show their idea of paradise. Between them they’ve used about 2,000 tonnes of sand. All the sand sculptures will be judged later in the week and the winner will receive the 2007 ‘Sandsation’ award.
