Celine Dion to raise $1m for tsunami aid

Las Vegas:

Singer Celine Dion will donate all the proceeds of a special Mother’s Day performance of her Las Vegas show to the victims of the tsunami disaster. Dion said she expects to raise a minimum of $1 million to donate to UNICEF to help families who have suffered as a result of the disaster, which has killed more than 150,000 people. “Like everyone else in the world, I’ve been devastated by the loss and suffering of so many,” Dion said in a statement Wednesday. “As a mother, I cannot imagine the pain that they are experiencing. We can all see that it’s going to take a long time for those people to rebuild their lives, and they will need our help for years to come.” The show is scheduled take place May 8 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace hotel-casino, where Dion performs. — AP
