LOS ANGELES: The son of the late singer Ray Charles was arrested last week for alleged drug possession and jailed without bail, authorities said.

Ray Charles Jr, 45, was arrested at a hotel after police received a tip, police said.

Authorities did not provide any other details or say whether he would be charged.

Charles has a previous arrest for possession of a controlled substance, police said.

Charles is one of a dozen children of the soul singer, who overcame a 20-year addiction to heroin during his life.

The elder Charles died last June of liver disease. His life is the subject of the Academy Award-nominated movie ‘Ray’. — AP
