Choose your school hours

If you find it hard to drag yourself out of bed in the morning, how would you like to be able to choose what time your lessons start? Four primary schools in Devon, south-west England, are letting kids do just that by giving them the choice of starting earlier or later than usual. Teachers want to see if kids can learn better at different times of the day. So, for four weeks, children in Year 2 and Year 5 will be able start lessons at 7:45am or 11am, instead of 9:00 am. Pupils who start at 7:45am will finish their official lessons earlier and spend the rest of the day doing fun activities. Parents, teachers and pupils will all keep diaries to highlight any problems along the way, such as the kids getting too tired. If the trial works, it could be used in other schools across the country.
