Colours of love

KATHMANDU: If you want to turn on your dormant love switch, visiting Ragini Upadhyay’s art exhibition ‘Sound of Love’ at The Art Shop, Durbarmarg would be quite a good choice.

Organised on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, the series of paintings on display attempt to spread the message of love, seemingly influenced by Hindu erotic paintings.

“These type of expressions convey love more strongly than others,” says Upadhyay.

She nevertheless considers that celebrating the Valentine’s Day is not the sole prerogative of couples in love. “The day can and should also celebrate love, above all, for your motherland,” she says.

Thus, her paintings also show a desire for freeing the motherland by working together harmoniously. The presence of Nepali monuments and objects also infuse a special Nepali flavour into her paintings.

For the first time in her life, Upadhyay has experimented using watercolour. “They can be more amenable to the flow of romantic feelings,” she says explaining her choice.

The exhibition, inaugurated by the ambassador of Germany Franz Ring and his wife Weili Ring, on February 11, will be on till February 25.
