Dedicated to birds

KATHMANDU:

Beautiful birds in their natural habitat — this is the signature style of veteran artist Hem Poudel. His seventh solo exhibition organised by the Commercial Artists’ Association of Nepal was inaugurated by Minister of Science, Technology and Environment Ganesh Shah on September 22 at the Nepal Art Council.

Titled ‘Environment and birds’, the exhibition showcases a huge variety of birds in their local habitat. The speciality of Poudel’s work is that along with the birds he makes sure of creating the background depicting the habitat of those birds which helps viewers know a little more about the birds in picture. Rather than just a portrait, his collection includes birds in their daily activities as well like feeding their chicks or building a nest.

His creations are realistic and the colours used are more of light and pastel shades.

A book titled Oju ra danfe written by poet Ganga Poudel was also launched at the event. Singer Lochan Bhattarai also sang a few lines of a poem from the book. — HNS
