KATHMANDU:

The US embassy’s American Center launched a democracy comic book in Pokhara on September 19, according to an American Center press statement.

Famed cartoonist Durga Baral aka Batsayan unveiled a copy of the book Democracy Comic Book — Dream of a Prosperous Nepal (Sammunat Nepalko Sapana) before a large gathering of school children.

The four-page colour publication was commissioned and funded by the American Center, and playwright Ashesh Malla and artist Yogesh Khapangi created the comic.

The plot focuses on two youth and teaches the importance of civic participation by young people to build a peaceful, prosperous, and democratic Nepal. It is intended to motivate youth to overcome frustrations of existing political, economic, and social challenges by getting involved and contributing to their nation.
