Director Gurung back with Purano Dunga
KATHMANDU: Director Ram Babu Gurung of Kabaddi Kabaddi fame is once again ready to don the director’s hat. Purano Dunga, that tells the a story of a man from Majhi community, from Kaski district, is his next directorial venture. The film was announced on February 8 at a press meet held at Mandala Theatre, Anamnagar.
“We are making a different film from Kabaddi Kabaddi. Purano Dunga is a different project, so it is going to be a different film,” shared Gurung of his new film adding, “It is a tragic story and will focus more on sentiments. There will also be some humorous characters.”
Shooting of the film starts on February 9. It will be shot in Pokhara, around Lake Begnas.
Purano Dunga tells the story of Bhakta Bahadur Bhujel, who finds it difficult to make his ends meet after his brother Batash Bahadur Bhujel takes way his means of livelihood — a boat that he rows by lake banks — in property division.
Gurung has collaborated with Upendra Subba again to write the story. More on the film, Subba expressed, “We didn’t want to make films like Kabaddi or Kabaddi Kabaddi. We wanted to make films on issues of society.” And Purano Dunga is that story.
It will be brought to life by actors Maotse Gurung, Dayahang Rai, Priyanka Karki, Menuka Pradhan and Buddhi Tamang among others.
