NEW DELHI: After receiving accolades and honours from around the world, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was finally conferred an honorary doctorate by his alma mater Delhi University on November 4.

Bachchan is the only film personality in the history of the university to receive such an honour. Nostalgia gripped the university auditorium as Bachchan reminisced about his college days.

“Who would have thought that an average student, not extraordinary by any means, would one day be conferred such an honour by the same institution he studied in,” Bachchan asked at the function.

Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, cartoonist RK Laxman and scientist CNR Rao were also conferred with honorary doctorates. Bachchan completed his Bachelor of Science (BSc) course in 1967 from Delhi University’s Kirori Mal College and has been an inspiration for its students over the years. Those seeking to emulate his success story start by joining the college’s elite dramatics society known as ‘Players’.
