Ensconced in a heart beat

Kathmandu:

Six young and promising artists of Nepal opened their exhibition at Baryo Fiesta on December 22 as part of the Heart Beat initiative commemorating the World Aids Day.

The exhibition compristing paintings by four painters, and performing art and installation art by two sculptors was inaugurated by Dr Guillermo Ortiz Ferrara, country representative of CIMMYT-South Asia, amid a crowd of young art lovers.

The impressive paintings by Bikrant Man Shrestha, Raj K Prajapati, Sunita Maharjan and Uday Karmacharya explore diverse themes including women’s issues, nature of reality, humanity and nature.

The performing art, which basically summed up the insurgency in Nepal, by Juju Kaji Maharjan, and the installation art by Sheelasha Rajbhandari received much appreciation. Rajbhandari showcased the simultaneous eternity of time and memory in the ever-changing cosmos we are in.

“This is our attempt to show people that the youth does not only consume, but can also contribute to society,” said Maharjan.

Twenty per cent of the proceeds from the sales will be contributed to Sangati, a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts.

Live classical music performance was also a part of the programme. The people who lent a helping hand to the artists in the past were also felicitated.

(The exhibition is on till January 22)
