For all our mums
KATHMANDU: Baisakh 14 (April 27) is Mata Tirtha Aunshi, a day popularly known as Aamako mukh herne din, when offspring go to their mother’s place and pay respect for everything she has done for them in life.
Though one does not need a special day to show one’s respect for one’s mother, having a special day to show one’s devotion and gratitude to the one person to brought us into this world is a welcoming thought.
On this day, people give their mothers gifts of clothes, jewellry, sweets, fruits and other edibles, and those who have lost their mother give food to the poor.
People in Kathmandu make a pilgrimage to Mata Tirtha, located in the southeast part of the Capital. It is believed that one can see the image of one’s dead mother in the waters of one of the two ponds in the area.
Although one can never pay back a mother’s devotion to a child, mother’s day is the occasion when sons and daughters get the opportunity to express gratitude and be grateful for everything she has done for them. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our mothers and wish them all a ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ and ‘long life’.
