Grand salute to rock

Kathmandu:

The Surya 24 Carat ‘Tribute to Rock’ came full circle when three bands who had played in the earlier editions came together to salute rock music at the grand finale on February 6. Held at the 1905 at Kantipath, the ‘Immortal Rock’ - A Grand Tribute’ saw huge number of rock fans letting their hair down for a truly rocking evening.

Abhaya and The Steam Injuns opened the evening by belting out songs like Living After Midnight (Judas Priest), Move Over (Janis Joplin) and Heart (Alone). The band slowly warmed up the crowd for a heavy duty rock night as lead singer Abhaya could be seen interacting with them and the crowd kept requesting songs of their choices.

The second act was by The Sound Minds which had paid tribute to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in the earlier editions. More people came crowded near the stage as the band started singing songs like Brown Sugar, Honky Tonk Woman and Wild Horses (The Rolling Stones). Be it the fast numbers or the slow ones, the rock fans were equally enthusiastic about each and every song as they swayed and sang the songs along with the band. The band also played Johnny B Goode (Chuck Berry).

The enthusiasm and energy level went to another level when the last band of the night Jigme and The Strings came on stage. Their power packed performance was greeted with huge cheers and shouts by the crowd, especially the young boys.

And the final two songs — Sweet Child o’ Mine and Another Brick on the Wall — were the perfect choice for the closing of this rock mania.

A special game where people were asked to answer questions related to rock music was also held and prizes were distributed to winners.

This special series was organised by Surya 24 Carat in order to promote their limited rock edition packs.
