Lesbian love on screen
MUMBAI: After Fire there is another lesbian love story in the offing, not an art film but a regular masala film complete with songs and dances. Seems Bollywood movies on heterosexual relations are now passé and alternative sexuality is the latest craze.
Former actor and writer Karan Razdan is directing a movie titled Girlfriend which, as
the director says, will be a girl-meets-girl love story. The film to be produced by Harry Baweja stars Amrita Arora, Isha Kopikkar and Aashish Chowdhary in lead roles.
In the film, Amrita plays a simple and straight woman who is in a healthy and loving relationship with Aashish Choudhary. Isha portrays a lesbian physically attracted and obsessed with Amrita. Aashish Chowdhry left for Mauritius on March 18 for a 15-day schedule for some very important scenes and two songs. And while he’s eagerly awaiting the release of his English film Enjoy, he has some other prestigious projects in his kitty which includes Shadi Ka Ladoo with Sanjay Suri, Mandira Bedi and Samita Bangargi, Kabhi Bhi Kahi Bhi with Dino Morea, Diya Mirza, and Sheetal Malhar and an English film Wow.
Divorce Me after Shaadi...
MUMBAI: Even as she is excited about an offer to act in an Urdu play, Mandira Bedi is busy acting in the film Shaadi Ka Laddoo produced by her husband. After Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, this will be her first substantial role in Bollywood and Mandira seems to be making the most of it. One more film starring her, Divorce Me, has been announced.
“It is the story of a kid who fails to get the deserved attention from his busy parents and how he gets inspired by a lawyer, played by Jackie Shroff, to divorce his own parents! Based on an American case where a kid actually filed for divorce — I play his mom who is a famous TV celebrity and always busy,” Mandira told. “Right now I’m very excited with my career and would love to do theatre too along with my other commercial work. I have got a very interesting offer for an Urdu play which I plan to take up and announce soon,” she says.
Katrina Kaif goes South
MUMBAI: Her debut film Boom may have busted at the box-office, but Katrina Kaif has become quiet a hot favourite in the South. Critics have panned her though saying that it was
the presence of Southern superstar Venkatesh that made the film a hit. But critics be damned. Katrina is beaming as she says, “In the film, I played the role of a princess who falls for a common man. It was a wonderful experience to work in the film,” she said. Katrina has become a hot property even in the modelling circuit. She is the current Lakme brand ambassadress.
Ash okays Tanuja flick
MUMBAI: It is reported that Aishwarya Rai has given her consent to act in director Tanuja Chandra’s next movie, which is based on some true-life incidents that took place during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. The film is yet to be titled. However, the film will not have any anti-Pak dialogues and is, as Tanuja puts it, “essentially an anti-war film”.
Tanuja says that although Ash has given her consent to play the leading role, the
film will go on floors not before this year-end when Ash would be relatively free from her current assignments. The hero is yet to be finalised.
Tabu is dating again
MUMBAI: Debutante director Vinta Nanda was taken by surprise when Tabu demanded Rs 50 lakh for White Noise just a few days before the shooting of the film was to begin. Reportedly this was not the sum they had agreed upon when Nanda had narrated the script to her. Tabu chose to be tight lipped about the issue. Koel Purie has replaced Tabu in White Noise. The film stars Rahul Bose and is a love story between two individuals working in the television industry.
Now tongues are wagging once again about Tabu! Remember how she was linked with Milind Soman? Then came Madhur Bhandarkar. But Bhandarkar’s marriage put all speculations to rest. Now it seems that she is secretly dating Apurva Lakhiya. Lakhiya is the one who gave us Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost.
