Hold and savour your scotch

Scotch — because one doesn’t solve the world’s problems over white wine. Well, this surely is not the apparent motive of Jeevan K Acharya, owner of Vineyard, but he wants to help people drink but drink responsibly and in the right manner. A small session on whiskey – blended to perfection and Scotch — single malt tasting — was organised for corporate people at Vineyard. “I guess we will have about 25-30 people coming in for the session. Since we have a large network, we have issued tickets for Rs 1,200, which include snacks and tasting of different malts with a small presentation by Yangdup Lama,” says Acharya. Well, the interesting part of the programme was that the corporate people would not only be tasting the best of scotch but at the same time learning a lot about the drink that has been prepared with such expertise and has come all the way from Scotland. Yungdup Lama, a well known face in the big bang parties of India, would be demonstrating the ways of drinking the scotch as well as explaining how they are made and the parts of Scotland each represents. “Since Yungdup Lama is very famous for this we have asked him over and this will add an extra zing to the whole session.

It would be like listening from the horse’s mouth,” says Acharya. Great people think alike. So do Acharya and Lama. They came together because they feel that people should be educated about the drinking habit. “It is always taken negatively but I guess if people get to learn that it is not all that bad if you know the ethical and responsible ways to drink, it helps,” says Lama.

He further adds, “There is another benefit to this. If one know what to drink and chooses how he likes his drink then next time he visits a party or orders a drink in the bar, he is more confident and relaxed and that tells a lot about his personality, too.” Some like it neat, some with water and others with ice and soda. How would you like your drink? If you think that you missed out on this session, wait till next Friday. Acharya has plans up his sleeves.
