'Improving' Amber discharged from hospital
KATHMANDU: Legendary musician and composer of Nepali national anthem Amber Gurung, who has been undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, India for more than a month, has been discharged on February 29.
“He was discharged yesterday (February 29) and has been staying in an apartment in Medanta Medicity. And he is improving. He is pretty much normal and stable,” informed Amber’s son Raju Gurung, about his father’s current condition.
“But he is still weak due to lack of enough nutrition. He is consuming only liquid and semi-solid food,” Raju further informed.
Towards the end of January, Amber suffered from food obstruction due to blockade in oesophagus, and was not able to eat. Upon endoscopy in Grande International Hospital in Dhapasi, a benign tumour was found as per Raju. And Amber was flown to Medanta for further treatment.
Sharing more on Amber’s treatment, he added, “Stents were used to open the blockade of his oesophagus and the tumour is being treated with radiation.”
Amber is also a patient of Parkinson’s disease and chronic diabetes. These diseases are also creating complications in his treatment. “There are complications due to Parkinson’s disease and chronic diabetes. There is fluctuation in sugar level while there is a problem in muscles coordination due to Parkinson’s disease,” Raju stated.
Since his admission to the hospital in the end of January, Amber has been in and out of the hospital twice. Despite being discharged, his treatment may take another three weeks and he will be visiting the hospital for radiation and observation everyday, Raju revealed.
Amber’s daughter Alka Gurung and their relatives are looking after Amber in India.
