LOS ANGELES: Singer/songwriter India.Arie has taken aim at Lady Gaga and Beyonce's saucy new video for Telephone, calling the promo "socially irresponsible".

The Video hitmaker launched her blistering Twitter.com attack on the 10-minute promo last week (18Mar10), asking followers, "Am I the only one who thinks the telephone video is going a bit too far?"

Her comments sparked a weekend of debate between her fans and GaGa's.

India.Arie revealed she was troubled by the imagery of the video and "the unspoken back story, the language, the message."

In the promo, Beyonce and an incarcerated Lady GaGa appear to be best friends who plot to kill a cheating boyfriend by poisoning him and all the diners at a fast food restaurant before attempting to race away from the law.

The video ends with a Thelma & Louise-inspired climax as the two poisoners hold hands and drive off into the sunset with the police on their tail. In Thelma & Louise, the title characters drive off a cliff to avoid capture.

India.Arie tweets, "I agree gaga is being her image... I dig her creative mind But still... Thers a such thing as socially irresponsible (sic).

"I respect the creative mind but disagree with the 'choices' as a dish meant to be served for mass consumption... Crazy to me that the Dark, underbelly, shock at all cost thing is a Trend like asymmetrical hair and big shoulder jackets. Slippery slope!"
