Israeli film fest from May 8

KATHMANDU: The second Israeli Film Festival is set to begin in the Capital from May 8. This three-day festival is being organised by the embassy of Israel at the Russian Culture Centre, Kamalpokhari.

An Israeli embassy press statement describes Israel as a country, small in size, a modern society built on ancient roots, with a culturally active, heterogeneous population. A largely immigrant society, Israel’s creative expression has absorbed many different cultural and social influences, as it blends tradition and innovation, and strives to steer a course between Israeli particularism and universalism.

Of the Israeli film industry, it says that it is vivid and diversified reflecting many aspects of life in Israel. It has undergone major developments since its inception in 1950s. The movies selected for the festival will expose the viewers to a fascinating facet of the modern Israeli culture.

Six movies will be screened during the festival. Free passes are available at the Israel embassy, (4411811/ 4413419), or at Russian Cultural Centre on the day of the show.
