KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Jazz Festival is back with its 13th edition. At this musical revelry, jazz music from different parts of the globe will paint the Valley jazzy. The Surya Nepal Jazzmandu 2015 is scheduled to take place from November 4 to 10. And it will feature — Katamon Cherry, Leni Stern, Banda Magda, Julie Saury Trio, Yaite Ramos, Kjetil Husebo and Cadenza Collective, among others. The varied sounds of jazz are sure to soothe your musical and aural senses for a week. So, mark your calendar. Here is the Jazzmandu schedule.

Jazz For The Next Generation Music Competition

November 4

Time: 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Venue: Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory, Jhamsikhel

Three selected finalists will perform and a panel of judges consisting of visiting Jazzmandu artistes will select The Outstanding Band. The winning band will share the stage of Jazz Bazaar along with top international Jazz artistes. They will also be awarded with the opportunity to interact and engage in private workshops and meetings with Jazzmandu musicians throughout the week.

Concert For School Children

November 5

Time: 11:00 am to 12:30 pm

Venue: Alliance Francaise, Tripureshwor

It is a Jazzmandu education initiative for young school students. It is a free concert (invitations only) where interested schools and students can come for the show. The concert will give them an opportunity to experience music from around the world as well as interact with the visiting musicians.

Jazzmandu Vocal and Rhythm workshop

November 5

Time: 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Venue: The Kathmandu Music Room/Naxal, Bhatbhateni

It will feature workshop on Afro Cuban rhythms and folkloric singing with Yaite Ramos and vocal styles and techniques in Latin music and the importance of rhythm with Banda Magda.

Groovin At Upstairs

November 5

Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Venue: Jazz Upstairs, Lazimpat

The festival will kick-off with a jam by Cadenza and visiting Jazzmandu artistes.

Valley Jams

November 6

Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Jazzmandu Masterclasses

November 9

Time: 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm

Venue: Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory, Jhamsikhel

It will be vocal and instrumental workshops where music students and jazz enthusiasts will get an opportunity to interact with visiting musicians learning different vocal and instrumental tips and techniques.

Jazz at Patan

November 9

Time: 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Venue: Dhokaima Café (Yala Maya Kendra), Patan

Featuring Cadenza and Friends, it will be a soulful evening. International musicians will bring out their musical ideas and energies with Nepal’s top-notch classical musicians and Cadenza.

Jazzmandu Finale

November 10

Time: 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm

Venue: Yak & Yeti Hotel, Durbar Marg

Jazzmandu will be bring down the curtain with the Big Jam. Musicians from different bands will play their sets and later jam together.
