Jazzy jam up

KATHMANDU:

They are here to let the music lovers of the Valley enjoy the legendary Flamenco Jazz music. After winning hearts at the Hyatt Regency, the Flamenco jazz band Vientos Flamenco comprising Jorge Pardo (flute and saxophone), Juan Diego (guitar) and El Chispa (percussion) gave a terrific performance at the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory (KJC) on May 14.

Unlike the last performance, this setting was more casual and relaxed. The crowd comprising mostly foreigners made themselves comfortable at the venue — some sat on the chairs, while some lounged in the garden closer to the stage. The programme started a little later than scheduled but all enjoyed the breezy evening under the moon listening to Jan Fadness (keyboard), Mariano (saxophone) and Antonio (drums) playing some spontaneous music as openers. Soon they were followed by our very own local traditional instrument artistes Milesh (tabala), Roshan (chaturangi) and Santosh (ishraj) whose ensemble entertained all.

Then came Vientos Flamenco who played some very peppy music. The foot tapping music made many clap along and Spanish guests present in the crowd cheered and enjoyed the music the most. They also jammed up with various musicians from KJC and mesmerised the crowd with their rhythms. — HNS
