Kathmandu:

Jharana will be starring in a film called ‘Sanjeevani’, having played an item girl in ‘Love in Nepal’. ‘Sanjeevani’ has been directed by Gangtok-based director Shyam Pradhan, who has made just one film so far. His ‘Bhul’ was shot in Darjeeling in 1993. The 50-year-old, whose family runs a hotel in Gangtok, had worked in Mumbai in the 1970s and 80s, trying to get a break as an actor. He played the lead in a film called ‘Romeo in Sikkim’ but was unable to make an impact. Thereafter he decided to switch over to production instead. Now he is keeping his fingers crossed that ‘Sanjeevani’, made in Nepali as well as Hindi, will revive both his and Jharana’s careers.

Jharana has a better chance to display her acting skills in ‘Sanjeevani’ than in her previous Hindi film where the action was cornered by hero Sonu Nigam and his heroine Fllora Saini. The new film is a love story with lots of action where she, as a poor girl, is wooed by the rich boy hero played by actor Sushil Chhetri, and his friend as well, played by Amrit Jung Basnet.

The small budget film was shot in Gangtok last September and Pradhan is hoping for its Nepal release after May. However, he says it will be at least another six months before the Hindi version is screened in India.

But the waiting period is not going to be a time of obscurity for Jharana. Right now, the young woman, who says she sees no wrong in baring the body beautiful, is enjoying a lot of exposure in Nepal. She is the new face of Lux. And with the beauty soap’s manufacturers Nepal Lever sponsoring an annual film award as well as model hunt, she is bound to share the limelight with the winners.
