Joe Simpson claims the world wants his family to fail.

The former reverend - who manages both his famous daughters, Jessica Simpson and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz - says people don't want to see them doing well and get joy when things go wrong.

He fumed to Us Weekly magazine: "We as a family are under a lot pressure. People want to make us look bad and want us to fail."

Joe claims the family weren't concerned when Ashlee was dropped from US TV drama 'Melrose Place' after just six months.

He said: "It was never a loss. The world says whatever it says. The world, again, always wants to make it look like we're failures but we're really just a family that works hard."

Ashlee - who has a one-year-old son Bronx with husband Pete Wentz - recently made her Broadway debut in 'Chicago', which was watched by Joe, Jessica and mother Tina and Joe said he couldn't have been prouder.

He revealed: "My children look at ups and downs and rise up above it all and remain strong... We're just normal people, and we always try to be who we say we are."
