Katamon Cherry rocks Jazzmandu
KATHMANDU: It was a good dose of jazz music with the flavours of rock, Middle East and the whole goodness of jazz. Serving all detectable pieces in the hall of Moksh, Jhamsikhel was the quartet — Katamon Cherry from Israel. Adam Weingrod on guitar, Elad Gellert on sax, David Michaeli on bass, and Haim Peskoff on drums showcased their musicality, improvisation skills, and stage presence. They were a treat to the ears and eyes. This evening of November 6 was dedicated to jazz as Surya Nepal Jazzmandu 2015 celebrated its third day.
Playing a full set in the festival, guitarist Weingrod shared that “it was our best set”. He further added, “The festival is good and fun. It is great playing for the Nepali audience as they are amazing. They give good feeling all the time.”
The band was not only catering music and fun time, they were also enjoying themselves on the stage. To this saxophone player Gellert shared, “We always have fun on stage but it went a little bit further because we are having a lot of fun here.”
“Our visit… everything is fun. People here are nice. Despite the crisis people are going out and supporting live music. We are happy to meet them,” he expressed and admitted that he loved Nepal on his first visit.
Katamon Cherry has a unique sound and taking in all the goodness was aspiring guitarist Pradip Sapkota among many. “I am listening to their music for the first time and I really liked their music — the feel and melody,” he shared after listening to the band.
Three other venues bubbled with jazz music in the Valley on the same day. Leni Stern, and Yaite Ramos hit Jazz Upstairs with Cadenza Collective in Lazimpat with the right notes, while House of Music in Thamel got to dance with BandaMagda, and Julie Saury Trio tripled the fun at Manny’s Eatery & Tapas Bar in Jawalakhel.
