Last day, last shows
KATHMANDU: The last day of the Indian Film Festival is here. Organised by the Indian embassy in association with the BP Koirala India Nepal Foundation, the weekend saw some classic Hindi films being screened here. The festival had travelled to other major cities of the country in the last two months before reaching the Capital.
Two films will be screened on March 5 at Jai Nepal — Hip Hip Hurray (1984) at 11:30 am
and Garam Hawa (1973) at 3:00 pm.
Hip Hip Hurray is the story of a computer engineer Sandeep Chaudhury (Raj Kiran) who is also a sportsman and who is in search of a job. In the meantime he takes up a temporary job of a physical education teacher in a local school. Overcoming a number of obstacles, Sandeep manages to make winners out of the school’s losing team.
Now Sandeep’s thought is will he be able to leave the school and his team to find a better job in Bombay?
The difficult life of a Muslim family during 1947 in North India is shown in Garam Hawa. It explores the choice that such families had during the time — whether to continue living in India or leave and start life afresh in the newly established Pakistan. This is the decision Balraj Sahani and his family have to make.
