Late actor Shree Krishna remembered

KATHMANDU: The stars of our Tinsel Town filled the hall of Russian Center of Science and Culture, Kamal Pokhari on August 10 and cameras kept flashing even during the screening of the documentary Samjhana Ma Shree Krishna.

In the audience were stars related to the Nepali film industry like Shiva Shrestha, Basanta Thapa, Krishna Malla, Jharana Thapa, Saroj Khanal, Deepak Raj Giri, Deepa Shree Niraula among others. They had gathered to remember late actor Shree Krishna Shrestha on his first death anniversary. The actor passed away tragically on August 9, 2014 due to bone cancer just a couple of month’s after his marriage.

Shrestha’s widow actress Sweta Shrestha Khadka made her first public appearance after the actor’s death.

The short documentary featured the late actor’s career in the film industry and his life. The ending left everyone’s eyes moist and even actress Gauri Malla, who was also anchoring the event, was seen to be affected by it.

The event was organised by Shree Krishna Shrestha Smriti Pratisthan that included a book launch and award ceremony. Minister for Information and Communications Dr Minendra Rijal, Director Yadav Kharel among others launched the book Amar Nayakko Samjhanama penned by Shyam Smrit.

Veteran actor Shrestha was awarded with the Shree Krishna Shrestha Smriti Kala Samman that carried a prize of Rs 1,11,111, while late director Shiva Regmi was honoured with the Shree Krishna Shrestha Bishesh Samman along with a cash prize Rs 51,000. It was received by Regmi’s widow Gyanu Regmi.

Sharing about life after her husband’s death, Shrestha Khadka, who is also a patron of the Pratisthan said, “Shree used to tell me that I have to handle all his work and I felt he knew that he has to go early that’s why he told me to be strong and continue my work. I’m still not in a condition to work and I am still on medication. However, I am going to come back in the industry with support and love of my family, friends and audience. Though Shree is not physically present in my life, I have gained so much love, direction in life and knowledge from him. The nation also honoured him and for that I am very grateful.”

Talking about the awards and work in progress of Shree Krishna Shrestha Smriti Pratisthan, President of the Pratisthan Chandra Prasad Shrestha expressed, “Through the Pratisthan we will be honouring and motivating people who are involved in the art field along with remembering the late actor. We are in the process of bringing out a stamp with the image of Shree Krishna and also build his statue.”
