Magic in a child’s smile

It was the day of my Maths examination. I had always dreaded my Mathematics exam, but now I had to face it.

As usual, I was not well prepared and was almost sick with fear as I made my way to the bus stop. I was shuddering while I took out a damp and frayed scrap of paper and began my revision. I diden’t remember the Algebra formulae? I was helpless. What should I do?

How I wished this was an examination-free world or that I could simply scrap the word examination. With such thoughts running through my mind, I witnessed a wonderful sight.

Standing next to me was a child, smiling and blinking her eyes every now and then. I was taken aback and it seemed my entire world was the child. I forgot all my worries and stress about the examination. The moved towards me with a flower as pretty as herself.

For a few minutes, in this child’s company I lost myself into my childhood only to realise that my bus had arrived and I was going to school to sit for the Maths examination.

But I have never forgotten this child. She helped me forget my worries and troubles though it was just for a little while.

For me, something precious is not gold. A thing that is very precious to me is a child’s smile that soothes even frayed nerves.
