Mariah Carey justifies 'that' speech
LOS ANGELES: Mariah Carey jokingly blames her loony acceptance speech at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards on director Lee Daniels.
Carey says that Daniels had been telling her jokes and they had "splashes" of champagne before Tuesday's event. She gave a long, rambling acceptance speech when she was named Breakthrough Actress for her performance in "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire."
The 39-year-old singer made the comments backstage at the People's Choice Awards Wednesday night, where she won favorite R&B artist.
Carey says she was rushing to receive the honor on Tuesday and didn't eat enough. She also says people shouldn't take the speech too serious.
