Mastering the art of management
Kathmandu:
A Western concept may help, but it may not fulfil all the requirements for a country like Nepal. Understanding the need for a management course which fulfils these needs and encompassing the values and necessities of a country like ours, a new course has been designed that also addresses the new changing trends in the business community.
A new course Masters in Management is being started in the South Asian Institute of Management (SAIM) in Nepal for the first time. The course has been designed in collaboration with Kathmandu University. It will have five structured levels of courses — Foundation, Management Core, Integrative, Elective and Project Work.
Says Bijay KC, who is the dean, “Our courses are more focused. The advantage of joining this course is that it will include the regular courses as well as new courses which will help students approach the global market and manage a company with a more wider vision and more confidence. We hope to make SAIM a regional learning centre and we are targeting students from all over South Asia. We also hope to get faculty members from all over the region as well.”
An added advantage for students who enrol is that the list of promoters of SAIM include prominent names among others like Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani and Madhukar SJB Rana, who have good corporate links and will facilitate students to have internships and job placements in reputed organisations after completing the course. Another benefit for students is that SAIM offers exchange programmes with KU and colleges in the Philippines, Bangkok and India.
The eligibility criteria to join the courses is that one should have at least a second division in Bachelors in any stream or Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5. The entire course will be of two years and will cost one around Rs 250,000.
To make it more viable for professionals, the courses will be conducted in the evenings on weekdays and on Saturday mornings as well. To ensure that each individual gets quality education, only around 25 students will be taken in.
A counselling session will be held on February 7 from 2-5:00 pm at SAIM, Shaligram Apartment Hotel Premises, Jawalakhel.
The last date for submission of forms is February 15 and classes will commence from February 28. (For details call, 5544430)
