Momo mania grips city
KATHMANDU:
‘Momo Mania’ a yearly event organised by Nanglo International at its Bakery outlets in different parts of the country had its closing at Dharahara Bakery Café Kathmandu on February 2. The Momo Mania was also held at Butwal and Tansen on January 25 and 26 respectively.
As the name suggests, the event is the ultimate destination to try different varieties of momos under one roof. The evening saw many families, youngsters and foreigners gathered to enjoy the juicy momos with a variety of fillings. Of the 21 varieties offered, some that really stood out were the Mashyaura, Kothay pork momo, Gundpak momo and mutton momo.
The stalls were crowded with people who were all trying to taste each and every variety of momo. Kutumba’s mesmerising music and Japanese singer Sundari Mica crooning some Nepali numbers added to the momo maniacs’ delight.
Another major attraction was the momo-eating and making competitions. This year the momo-eating competition was held for two different groups — adults and children. Ramesh Maharjan ate 29 momos in one minute and was declared the winner among the adults, while Devarth S Dixit gulped down 10 momos in one minute and took home the kids’ title.
The momo-making champ was Shailesh Rana who made 13 momos in five minutes.
