Musical tribute to great leader

KATHMANDU: The applause that rained from the huge audience reverberated in the hall of Nepal Academy when Parbati Rai made a groovy start with her musical track Khotang Haleshi. She was accompanied by dance troupe from the Jharana Kala Kendra, whose performance to Rai’s song made the whole item visually appealing.

The musical programme titled Jananayak Ram Prasad Rai Smriti Sajh, organised by Juntara Sanskritik Sewa Samaj on December 12, was a tribute to prominent political leader Ram Prasad Rai.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ganesh Rai, who was the special guest, started the programme by lighting the traditional lamp. Secretary of Juntara Sanskritik Sewa Samaj, Junpyasi Rai said, “I feel happy to pay tribute in remembrance of our political leader.”

Ram Prasad Rai was one of the unnoticed political heroes of Nepal, who was against the Rana regime and formed Jana Morcha (a political group) to fight the autocratic rule.

Shyam Samsohang injected a sentimental feeling into the hearts of many by singing Murchungama Roye, while dancer Chet Sunuwar accompanied him. Sunuwar’s perfect lip-syncing with Samsohang’s passionate song and sentimental portrayal of her body language was a delight to watch.

DP Khanal sang Aaja Maile Moti Tipe while Menuka Rai won a round of applause for her Maya Abharise. Well-known RJ Hem Subedi hosted the programme and his sayaris, which earned whistles, deserves special mention here. He also made the audience laugh with his sense of humour.

When Subedi called Anju Pant on stage, the hall erupted in whistles and clapping. She sang her hit numbers Maitighar, a remix version of title track from movie Maitighar, Kaha Bhetiyela, title track from movie Kaha Bhetiyela and the famous Na Birse Timilai. She made audience clap to every beat and rhythm of her song.
