My Dad, my Superhero

I believe a superhero is one who speaks the truth at all times and works for the welfare of his/her country. My superhero is my grandfather. Though he is in his 80, he is still fit, honest and a hardworking person and has a very strong character.

We have our own superheroes if you have ever given thought to it: the sacrifices they have made, the numerous hours they’ve toiled just to satisfy our needs, our wants, our desires. Like all superheroes, they have kept you away from evil like the ‘caped crusaders’, they are behind you helping you take every step... like Spiderman who squirts his web to secure a falling victim. They are my superheroes — they are my parents.

— Ugen Lama

We know a superhero as someone kind, generous. But as far as reality goes, no one is ready to sacrifice himself for someone else’s good. For me there has always been a person who loves me, protects me, adores me and is my superhero. My father is the kindest man on the earth. All my dreams have been fulfiled before they become a desire, yet he asks for nothing in return. He always forgives me, motivates me, inspires me, encourages me. He never quits setting a new example of generosity. I worship him.

A superhero, in my opinion, is someone who makes a positive difference in the lives of others. He is the one who adds value to others’ lives. There is no dearth of superheroes in the world. From scientists who invented such blessings like electricity and aircrafts, to leaders and peacemakers like Gandhi. My ideal superhero is a server of humankind and the animal kingdom itself, who loves himself, and more than that, loves others. I choose Mother Teresa as my superhero. I do so because she rose from an ordinary girl to the world’s most admired woman; and she had nothing else but her determination and commitment to serve humanity, to serve the poor, and to help those who needed her.

My superhero is Superman. For me a superhero is that person with extraordinary powers that s/he uses for the betterment of mankind.

— Neelotpal Sharma

When I was young, a superhero was the person who could do extraordinary things like zap the villain or save the poor girl. Now as an 18-year-old, a superhero is the person who stands up for what s/he believes is right and does not give up his/her beliefs. Superheroes do not necessarily need to have supernatural powers or save people. They have

to be courageous people who do not lack persistence. In EE Cumming’s poem, I sing of Olaf glad and big, there is a Scandinavian man named Olaf who refuses to fight in WWI despite the incessant bludgeoning of US commanders. Olaf persists and persists even to the point of his death. Olaf is my superhero because he does not give up his values despite the extreme conditions.

I think superheroes in movies are designed to amuse the audience with breathtaking stunts. However, real life superheroes are simple folk like us who care and struggle for his duty towards his family, society and country.

— Nischal Poudyal

People often label someone they admire as a superhero. There are people who have shown outstanding works and I appreciate their works. But I don’t see any sense in calling them as superheroes. I obviously don’t have any such heroes. I don’t waste time chanting their names and adoring them. I’d rather have my own set of ideas to work on for the betterment of everyone.

I am my own superhero. I’m trying to find the qualities of a superhero within me. In my view, superhero is not the one who has super powers but the one who has a great heart and is ready to help anyone, any time, selflessly.

— Bishal (Hridaya)

We think a superhero is a mythical hero having miraculous powers. For me, a superhero is an ordinary character who struggles in favour of truth. Those who sacrificed their lives in the

Jana Andolan are my superheroes.

— Rajesh Agrawal

The real superheroes are those who in reality perform their task honestly. If a doctor manages to snatch a patient’s life back from yamaraj, a pilot lands the aircraft safely saving thousands of lives, engineer sketches honestly preventing a building’s collapse — these are such heroes. Everyone can be superhero if we are honest in our duty.

— Parash Mishra

I think a superhero is someone she who rescues someone in trouble by defeating evil forces. I have not experienced any

such incident in which someone has performed so heroically.
