National film awards announced

KATHMANDU:

The Film Development Board of Nepal (FDBN) is preparing to launch a special National Film Award to mark its seventh anniversary celebrations from June 30. The award will be given in six categories — Best Producer,

Director, Cinematographer, Screenplay, and Actors

(Male and Female). This information was shared at a press meet organised by FDBN on June 6.

Films made throughout the year 2063 BS can compete for the awards, according to Sailesh Raj Acharya, FDBN chairman. He also informed that a five-member jury from diverse sectors has been selected for choosing the winners. Films in national languages that are of 90-minutes or more are eligible for the awards, he added.

The anniversary celebration also plans to hold a seminar roping in film-related people from across the country to discuss the major issues facing the film industry.

“For now we have tried to encompass the imperative categories in the making of a film for the awards. We will definitely improvise ourselves and increase the number of awards in the successive years. We also plan to take Nepali films to remote areas from the coming year,” Acharya informed.
