Nepal’s Mathematics Olympiad

Medhavi Education in association with The Himalayan Times is organising the second Medhavi Mathematics Olympiad 2004. Enthused by the success, participation and interest shown by different institutes last year, Medhavi Education is organising the second Mathematics Olympiad with even greater participation this year.

The first phase of the national level Medhavi Mathematics Olympiad will be conducted in St Xavier’s College, Maitighar. The organisers say that around 400 schools from Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur are expected to participate in this year’s Mathematics Olympiad. The second phase will take place in Butwal, which will include schools from the Western Development Region and the third, fourth, and fifth phases of the Mathematics Olympiad will be conducted later. The finals for the capital will take place on May 15.

Tika Ram Timsina, managing director, Medhavi Education informed, “The competition will be held at three different levels. Level A will include students of class nine and 10, level B will include students of class six, seven and eight, while level C will have participants from class four and five.” Professor Dayananda Bajracharya, vice-chancellor, Royal Nepal Academy of Science and Technology, will be the chief guest at the event and Fr P T Augustine of St Xavier’s College will chair the programme. Madan Man Shrestha, president, Council for Mathematics Education in Nepal, will be the prime judge at the competition.
