KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 29
Nepal's acclaimed folk-rock band, Nepathya, has released a music video for its new song titled 'Pachaasai Barshama.'
In a statement, the band mentioned that it has made an effort to engage in a brief discussion of this era in a song and its accompanying video. Through the lyrics of the public song, the band expresses:
'Pachasaai barshama jug kha pugyo ni'
Garai vo iman ko manche veetina'
The song, which comments on social disparities, progresses to show optimism towards the end, stating, "Aajai pani iman jamaan vayeka manis bhetina sakcha" (Even now, a person with integrity can still be found).
Amrit Gurung, the lead singer of Nepathya, has incorporated his reflections into the song. He shares, "When I turned fifty, Anil Adhikari of Tanahun played me a song. Two lines in that song resonated with me. Expanding on that concept, I added a few lines of my own, mixing them with snippets I had heard elsewhere, and advanced the composition. After a few years of refinement, the song took its current form."
This song's context is notably different from the usual themes of the Nepathya band. The band's main vocalist and songwriter, Amrit Gurung, shares, "The idea for this song started around two years ago. Inspired by the concept laid out by Anil Adhikari, I found two lines amusing. I expanded that idea, mixed in some words I had written myself, and after several years of tweaking, the song took shape in this form."
'Pachaasai Barshama' (In Fifty Years) marks Nepathya's second official music video in the last two decades. The band had earlier produced a music video for the song 'Resham,' becoming the most talked-about video in the last two decades.
Nepathya has been working on its eighteenth album, and 'Pachaasai Barshama' has been released as a precursor. Following the tradition of unveiling songs to the public gradually, last year the band released the song 'Bhatbhate' from the same album.
The music video for this song, directed by Navin Joshi, has been recently released. Navin, a familiar name in Nepal's advertising and design sector since 2002, has collaborated with the band on various projects.
According to the statement, Nepathya's official YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/nepathyaofficial features this song and all of Nepathya's songs, which are also available on various digital platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon, and more.
