Nepathya’s bid to help quake-hit
KATHMANDU: When the devastating earthquake that shook the nation on April 25, Nepathya was on its tour of Australia. The news made them cancel the next day’s show, but they decided to go ahead with all shows lined up for May in Tokyo and Dubai. They took it as an opportunity to generate awareness and funds for the disaster, according to a Nepalaya press release.
As such the band has been able to generate over Rs 40 lakhs through shows organised in Melbourne on April 26, Tokyo on May 5 and Dubai on May 21 along with Nepathya’s own contribution to it, states the release.
The statement quotes Raj Sharma of Yeti FC, organisers of Nepathya’s Melbourne show as saying, “Aus $4,000 was collected in the drop box and later they were able to collect Aus $20,000, which was transferred into NRN Australia’s account for NRNA-Earthquake Disaster Relief Campaign-2072.”
Fund was collected from the Japan concert too. From the funds collected in Tokyo, Rs 1 lakh was sent to Japan Fund.
“An amount of Rs 2 lakhs was sent for rebuilding Dhuseni Primary School in Dhading and Rs 1 lakh for Sheetal Danda Primary School in Hansapur, Gorkha. The remaining fund of Rs 11 lakhs will be used as seed money to support and sponsor children orphaned by earthquake,” the statement quotes Amar Gurung of Tamu Dhin, the organiser of the show in Tokyo, as saying.
The band upon returning from Australia deposited Rs 5 lakh in PM Disaster Relief Fund. The sum was topped up with another Rs 5 lakh from the Dubai Show, according to the statement.
