Open fun at AFK
KATHMANDU: The auditorium of Alliance Française of Kathmandu (AFK), Tripureshwor was filled with happy faces singing French songs and shaking their body to the numbers on November 27. It was a song workshop — a form of teaching French language to the students of French course at AFK — a part of event ‘Open Day’.
The Open Day was full of activities including various board games, card games and more focusing on learning French language. French short movie screening with English subtitles, French cuisine to taste at Le Bistro along with disseminating information about courses available were other attractions.
This is the first informative event AFK has organised where teachers and employees of AFK gave information to the visitors about the services AFK provides and
helping them to play the games available.
Yulia Rosselot, Course Coordinator at AFK, who was conducting the song workshop shared, “Today it’s free for everyone and it’s the demonstration how we motivate our students to learn French language. Usually during class there used to
be only five or six students in song workshop. Today we have more than 25 and they are already asking when will another class run. So, we fulfilled our aim to give information through Open Day.”
Prabin Rana, Deputy Director of AFK, expressed, “AFK is not only the language centre or place for organising concerts. We are more than that where we provide various services. We have organised this event to welcome the public and give them information on what AFK is offering to them. We have Campus France — an agency that gives information about studying in France. We conduct international French language tests like Delf/Dalfm and TEF/TCF. We organise cultural exchange programmes, we have multimedia library, online library and more.”
Ashrusha Mainali, studying in level VI at AFK, was also present at the song workshop. Sharing the event’s experience, Mainali expressed, “Today I got to meet my seniors and discussed studying in France. And I had fun with my friends playing games and learning more about French culture through their music and food.”
For Pranish Shrestha, a friend of Mainali’s, it was his first time at AFK. “It’s my first time here in AFK. I did not know about AFK at all and today I got to learn about French culture and felt like being exposed to French lifestyle. Being first time here I find the people friendly and not at all awkward,” he said. —
