PEOPLESPEAK: Honour thy fellow creatures
Each and every animal has its own value and place in nature. So everyone should learn to treat animals as fellow creatures. They’re also the creation of nature, and being a superior of all the creatures it’s our responsibility to take care of them. So there should be certain provisions that ensure them protection from abuse. It’s necessary to propose a legislation to punish people for the cruel mistreatment of animals.
Deepak Karki
Some people who, wicked by nature, treat animals mercilessly. Men devoid of compassion exploit hapless animals. Animals have been killed by men for food, sacrificed in the name of offerings to god and tamed as beasts of burden. One should not forget that animals also feel the pain as we do. It’s our duty to treat them compassionately. Moreover, stringent legislation should be introduced to punish brutal treatment against animals so that their protection is ensured.

This world is the common habitat of all living beings. Though, human intelligence have made them stand a higher pedestal, they apparently are the most inconsiderate of animals. Their intelligence has ruined them and depraved them of humane qualities. Humans have been indiscriminately exploiting the natural resources (animals and plants) and killing animals just for the sake of fun. We are not yet aware of the impending danger, but if we want to ward off the disastrous outcome of our excesses we shouldn’t hesitate to punish the perpetrators. Animals have the equal right to live a life of dignity as much as humans.
— Abhinaya Shah
Besides domesticating animals for utilitarian purposes, they are also kept as pets for pleasure and company. To some, animals go to the extent of being the most faithful and loyal of friends. In addition, pets may be kept for their beauty or rarity. There are people who inflict wilful or wanton torture on animals. Animal welfare societies were established and laws against cruelty to animals were introduced by the late 20th century in almost all the developed nations. Their resistance to the mistreatment of animals has been influential in curbing some inhumane testing of animals in science laboratories. After all they are beautiful creations of god and treated accordingly. When circumstances no longer allow an owner to keep a pet, it should be placed in a good home, or with a responsible animal-rescue organisation.

In spite of their intelligence and conscience, man now has emerged as the greatest threat to the existence of other species inhabiting the planet. Animals constitute an integral part of the ecosystem as much as human beings themselves. But instead of protecting them, we are even indiscriminately destroying their habitats. Even the domestic animals are tortured. Likewise, poaching has become rampant with an equal disregard to their right of existence. They have soul and they feel pain as we humans do and this very fact must seep into our consciousness.
— Dinesh Bhandari, Kathmandu
Animals do have the right to live the way humans do. They should not only be treated as objects to eat, experiment and exploit. People who do not show compassion and kill them for amusement should be punished. Legislation to punish brutal treatment of animals should be proposed in Nepal. I consider this inhuman treatment against animals to be a felony. People here should keep in mind that killing of animals will have its adverse effects in the entire ecosystem. Abuse of animals should be considered a criminal act and strict laws should
be proposed to prevent such an offence.

It is not fantastical nonsense, just the right of animals that several western countries have honoured. All the animals in the planet should be entitled to an equal right to maintain their existence. People take undue advantage of their innocence because animals don’t retaliate against oppression. Animals also have soul, sympathy, perception and sense of fear. Since they are also the indispensable part of the nature they deserve protection as much as we humans.
— Dilli Raj Upreti
Animals do have sense and can think but cannot express as we humans can. Animals are also god’s creation as we suppose we human beings to be. A world of people without animals is even hard to imagine, because animals are as much a part of this planet as human beings. A proper legislation should be introduced for the protection of animals. People who mistreat animals should be punished so as to discourage exploitation of animals. As such, we should be empathetic being the superior of all living beings.

We can’t consider this issue as a fantastical nonsense. The best way to understand the enormity and gravity of the situation is to step into their shoes and realise how animals feel when tortured. Like we humans, animals do have souls, emotions and can equally feel pleasure and pain. In essence, mistreating animals is just like mistreating one of our fellow human beings. Ironically, though we all strongly decry the Holocaust by the Nazis, we absolutely overlook yet another horrid holocaust that we carry out against animals. We all are the inhabitants of the same planet and therefore we all have the equal right to live. It happens to be our responsibility to ensure them their inalienable right to live and enjoy the fruits of nature. Shamefully, both our religion and law have turned a blind eye to this heinous practice.
