PEOPLESPEAK : We listen to music and dance, too

Music has become an integral part of human life since time immemorial. In this modern day society music has not lost its charm rather it has been hold in a special space at celebrations. From soothing a broken heart to providing tranquillity to a disturbed mind, music plays a very significant role in healing emotions. Good music brings solace to a broken heart and helps us forget sorrow and pain. The significance of music has been grows every day and most significantly it has been a key component at hospitals to treat patients suffering from mental illness. Owing to the multiple uses of music, as therapy and entertainment, it would be very nice to encourage musicians to entertain people. Nepalese youths are drawn to Western music, but Nepali music should also be promoted.

It’s inevitable that teenagers are either partying or rushing to discos. The DJs at these parties thrive on the adulation of their groupies. Musicians have innate talent. However, the articulate presentations of DJs have made them more popular since they are successful in impressing their listeners. Due to their extraordinary style of entertaining they are always extolled by their guests. The best solution which would suit the musicians would be to learn the presentation style of DJs.

DJs are becoming more popular, but musicians should not take their place. They both do different things and both needs to grow more. I think there is a lack of professional DJs in Nepal. Almost all the DJs here are top20 spinners with a few cheap tricks. Strangely people are happy with it! Not many have experienced the thrill of real DJs and real music. For many reasons the entertainment industry is growing very slowly. We are just going to have to wait for better music, just like we wait for everything else in this country. I don’t have a problem with singers and music bands here. They are making wonderful music. I only wish bands here would experiment more with rock music and bring in alternative music, such as punk or anything new.

Musicians should be encouraged as equally as the Disc Jockeys (DJs). Parties go seismic with DJs playing unique and rocking music, but the musicians play eclectic songs that can bring people to their feet. People enjoy musicians on TV, radio and would probably be a hit at parties. Why not give them an equal opportunity to highlight the night?

Sophisticated societies and their sophisticated cultures include modern style parties. The core of every party are the DJs who make the party mood rocking. DJs play a dominant role in engaging everyone into the realm of fantasy during a marriage, a birthday or any other celebration. The heart of every party is the heart-throbbing songs and music. DJs take part in energizing partying members. Live musicians are also popular. It is a matter of preferences whether to go with one or the other. But what people need is full enjoyment of their musical experience. Musicians, whose numbers are mushrooming, need a platform to expose their talent and earn a living from it. This trend will encourage bands to take it as an easy alternative if in case they fail to find success with their album and remain in obscurity. Earnings from occasionally organized concerts and also music albums do not musicians to be economically sound. Most of them are bound to take side jobs. Singing in parties can become their second income. Considering their ultimate aim to entertain people, they should not have stage fright. The choice of DJs or live musicians depends on what type of party it is. For instance, in official and formal parties, singers will be necessary but some parties need blaring sound, a variety of songs, and dance tracks, that of course need DJs. Replacing one totally with the other is not useful.

It’s true that the DJs have became the order of the party today. A dance party without music is like a person without a face. Musicians and DJs are the life of the party. There are lots of bands starting off. People are very attracted to music today but we can see that there is not much variety in this era, especially in our country. Musicians should be encouraged to expand their range by all of us. This will keep the field of music green forever.
