Perfect fusion

KATHMANDU: It was more of a celebration of classical music on the fifth day of ‘Jazzmandu 2008’. The evening of October 26 saw many veteran classical musicians and singers sharing stage with international Jazz musicians at the Patan museum. The traditional setting of the museum courtyard filled with sounds of mesmerising fusion music. The audience comprising both locals and expatriates enjoyed the Jazz at Patan gig listening to the blend of eastern and western music. The concert was opened by well known classical singer Guru Dev Kamat filling the air with his ragas.

Next was the band Cadenza jamming up with various participating jazz artistes like Greg Lyons on saxophone and Jerry Hagland on guitar playing the piece Patan created by Nabin Chettri of Cadenza inspired by the beauty and ambience of the museum and the historical surrounding. Suchet Malhotra of Wanny Angerer Latin Jazz Trio entertained the crowd with his unique percussion performance using instruments from all round the world, while Wanny Angerer blended her soulful voice to the music.

The show ended with the ultimate jam up of the participating artistes and bands like Greg Lyons trio, Wanny Angerer Latin Jazz Trio, Mark Brown Band, Catia Werneck Quartet, Terrence Bowry and Cadenza along with traditional Nepali musicians.
