KATHMANDU: London Dreams portrays the most common human instinct — jealousy that stirs turmoil in a relationship. The moral of the movie is simple — respect other’s talent, appeal and intelligence, and the plot has been nicely woven around this theme.
Arjun (Ajay Devgun) and Mannu (Salman Khan) come from a remote village and are best friends, but are different in their nature and family backgrounds. Arjun had a deep passion for music but his family insists that he not talk about music, and for this very reason he wipes out these thoughts from his heart. His family has reasons for their restrictions. However, Mannu never bothered about learning music but his family is adamant that he learn music anyhow.
Arjun goes to London and manages to study music and form a band — London Dreams — with Zoheb (Rannvijay Singh), Wasim (Aditya Roy Kapoor) and Priya (Asin). They become popular in a very short period. Mannu meanwhile leads his ordinary and happy life back in the village.
But Arjun brings him to London to join his band. Mannu soon becomes the most popular person in the band and wins thousands of fans due to his talent both as a singer and composer. Arjun realises that his best friend has become a threat to his career. The situation worsens between the two when Arjun gets determined to destroy whatever comes between him and his ambition, and his beloved Priya. The movie has its shortcomings. Arjun surviving as a teenager in London without any financial or parental support is really indigestible.
Khan is amazing and justifies his fun loving character, while the intensity displayed by Devgan in the second half deserves two thumbs up. Asin is splendid and pairs very beautifully with Khan. Rannvijay Singh and Aditya Roy Kapoor leave an impact though they do not have much to do. It’s sad to see that Om Puri does not have much role in the film.
The music has to be highly appreciated. Barson Yaaron and Jashn Hai Jeet Ka are
perfect tracks for all rock
lovers while other tracks are also good.
In a nutshell, the story theme, soul-soothing music, justifiable performances from the lead actors and perfect emotional sequences makes London Dreams worth a watch.
