Poesy

Song:

Everyone burst out singing

And I felt such a delight

As a caged bird finding freedom and

Flying wildly across the whites.

Oceans and dark green fields

And out of sight

Everyone’s voice was suddenly lifted

And beauty shone like the setting sun.

My eyes were filled with tears and horror

All of them drifted away

Everyone was a bird

The singing was worthless.

— Prateek Thapa, Class VIII, Asian Public School, Kathmandu

Books:

I like my book

I will keep my book neat and clean

I will not tear my books

As books are also god

I will cover them neat and clean.

I will keep my book

In my bag or rack

And do my classwork and homework.

— Binu Lama, VS Niketan, Kathmandu

Goodbye:

Believe in yourself

Have faith in you

No matter what you do

I will still be with you.

Keep smiling

Even when you are sad

Remove that unhappy expression

And be happy just like that.

My best wishes

To you my dearest

Pavement of success

Love and happiness.

Saying it aloud

With all my heart

Saying goodbye

Hurts a lot.

— Preema Ranjitkar, Class VII,

Little Angel’s School, Lalitpur

Land of Buddha

Gift of the brave Gorkhalis

Zone of peace

Situated between India and China

It is my country Nepal.

Sagarmatha, roof of the world

And the beautiful Himalayas

All are found here

In my motherland Nepal.

Nepal is a wonderful

place

Where Buddha’s birth

took place

Who got knowledge in Gaya

And is known as the Light of Asia.

— Aashma Adhikary, Class VI, GEMS, Lalitpur

Fish:

One, two, three, four, five

Once I tried to catch a fish alive.

Six, seven, eight, nine, ten

Then I let it go again.

Why did I let it go?

Because it pricked my finger so.

Which finger did it bite?

A little finger on my right.

— Shiristi Shrestha, Class IV, Children’s Heaven School, Kathmandu

Preparation:

For your examination

Study with concentration

Study the entire day

And there is no play

Study all day long

Eat to be strong

Never resort to cheating

Or you will get a beating

If you do well

You will get it

Otherwise you will fail.

— Prakrit Manandhar, Class V, Shuvatara School, Kathmandu
