Raising money and a few laughs

Kathmandu: Nepal Britain Society’s New Shakespeare Wallah is presenting ‘Ma’s Bit ‘O’ Brass’, a comedy in the Acts by Ronald Gow, at the Yak and Yeti on March 18 and 19. The comedy set in north England background is one of the most played comedies. It is the story of a working class woman who wins some money and buys a cottage in a country estate. But the owner of the estate makes an attempt to run them out by ordering the villagers not to supply the woman and her company with no groceries and by closing off the hiking trails.

Unfortunately, the plan does not work out as the estate owner’s son falls in love with the woman’s young daughter and tears down his own barbed wire fence. The play is being organised with three distinct aims — strengthening the friendly relationship between Britain and Nepal, establishing an understanding about the plays in Nepal and Britain and to raise fund. The tickets rated at Rs 1,400, the proceeds collected will be donated to village schools. Those British who are staying in Nepal will participate in the drama accompanied by some of the Nepalis. —HNS
